Sport Flyer Email #1
Dear Flyer,
We hope this update finds you happy and healthy. We are reaching out to share some news with you with respect to: Safety, Coaching, and Pricing
Safety
Our number one priority is the safety of our flyers and staff. To that end, we have been investing time and effort into improving and standardizing the safety and learning processes at all our locations. Supporting that effort, we have worked to improve the accessibility and features of the website of the International Bodyflight Association (IBA), the iFLY standard bearer of tunnel flying safety and learning. So that all customers can benefit from these efforts, we will work to get all iFLY experienced flyers set up with an IBA account and the appropriate coach signoffs in the immediate future. Due to the upgraded IBA dashboard and its new quick reference guide, it will be easier to interact and communicate with your instructor, who will confirm your signoffs before your tunnel session. In that manner, akin to dive shops aligning completely with PADI or SSI, all our flyers will have a standardized and fun progression of learning and flying.
Additionally, we are conducting a safety training day next week, April 14th, with all our staff across all the U.S. tunnels which will be closed for business that day. This is a demonstration of our commitment to safety and the goal is to introduce some modified procedures that focus on a range of different flyer interaction touch points to make sure that we continuously improve our safety practices. We plan for this safety day to be an annual event going forward.
Coaching
We have also been working to update our internal coaching program, which re-launches today, so that you will have hundreds of IBA certified coaches available to coach your flying skills. To make it easy, all iFLY coaching products purchased will now be processed through our Point of Sale with the coaches being the primary benefactor of those purchases. iFLY sees this as a great opportunity to offer our customers the best and brightest coaches, coaching in a standardized and safe manner, whilst also expanding on the career progression path for our talented team. By centralizing and standardizing coaching for the experienced flyers, we are following in the footsteps of many other industries and the move to a direct staffing model of their talent (e.g., Gyms & Personal Trainers, Boutique Fitness & Coaches, Tennis/Golf & Pros, & etc…).
This does mean, starting immediately, iFLY will be limiting the number of external coaches that it works with to a small handful (i.e., less than 20). These external coaches have been selected in line with our revised safety focused selection criteria and share our same learning values. The approved coaches will hold an IBA Coach Rating and will meet other stringent safety, training, and equivalency criteria that enable us to confirm their skill sets and monitor their activity more closely. Note – this does not currently apply to our military products or military coaches.
Pricing
iFLY is pleased to announce the launch of a Frequent Flyer program! In conjunction with that launch, iFLY is moving away from the old process of purchasing block or bulk time and standardizing on a new centralized pricing model that is transparent, based on tunnel price tiers, and awards people for flying more with iFLY. We plan on providing incremental benefits to our best customers over the course of the next 6, 12, and 18 months. Recognizing that some customers will have price increases and some customers will see price decreases, we wished to provide the transparency as to, “why,” we are doing this:
Across the US, bulk/block price to customers has declined by 10-15% over the last five years.
Simultaneously, electricity and labor costs have increased by ~66% and ~35% respectively.
Insurance companies and their coverages has now separated the cost and deductibles for First Time Flyers and Experienced Flyers, driving a substantial cost increase for the Experienced Flyers.
Thus, all the above in the U.S. marketplace have made the current pricing rates unsustainable.
Therefore, iFLY has looked at your 2020 and 2019 activity and we are pleased to award you the rank of a Silver Member of this program with your price per minute in the table below. For the sake of transparency, we are including all membership levels and their price structures. Please reference the list of tunnels at the end of the email to see which tier(s) the tunnel(s) you fly at are in. Note: if you use multiple tunnels with different tiers, you will purchase time individually for each one.
Just like the typical airline frequent flyer program, you will have each calendar year to qualify for the next year’s status. Also, like a typical frequent flyer program, if you earn a higher status in a calendar year, that status will go into effect in that month for the rest of the calendar year in addition to the following year.
The new Frequent Flyer pricing will take effect on April 7, 2021. For those of you currently on a rate or if you have a signed written agreement with one of the US Corporate Owned tunnels offering a fixed $/min rate that is different than what is shown in this letter (e.g. through an agreement with your local tunnel), we will work with you at your agreed upon rate to pre-purchase as much as you would like until May 15, 2021. Please reach out to your local tunnel to accomplish this. Also Note – this does not apply to any military products or pricing structures.
Thank you very much for continuing to support our wind tunnels and allowing us to deliver the dream of flight to millions.
Thank you,
Matt Ryan, iFLY CEO
Christopher Barrett, iFLY USA President
